Osteria: In the past, an osteria was a place where locals gathered to play cards and drink wine. This type of establishment didn't always serve food, rather, an osteria was quite similar to a bar. Osterias have transitioned throughout the years and now they are closely tied to trattorias.

Osterias are wine bars that have evolved to serve simple meals. Traditionally, they are simpler than trattorias and usually have no menu. The offering changes daily, according to the market and two or three courses are offered for a fixed price, including wine.

The term osteria is Italian and was historically used to define a place where wine was sold. Some osterias would serve light meals or allow you to bring your own food. But, traditionally, most osterias only sold wine and may be considered equivalent to a wine bar today.

It turns out that the owner, Erik De Marchi, is a former protégé of chef Gino Angelini in Los Angeles.
